Easyread: A new attitude from Day 1, substantial progress in 3-4 weeks

Easyread delivers "Guided Phonetic Reading"
that allows each learner to practise decoding
words every day in a fun setting

Dear Teacher,

Easyread is a new online process that uses synthetic phonics with individual coaching for each child in the class, over the Internet. We call it Guided Phonetic Reading.

Guided Phonetic Reading

Guided Phonetic Reading (GPR) teaches a child to read by facilitating the decoding process. This allows the child to step through the decoding of each word and to build experience and ability through successful regular practice using phonetic decoding.

This is achieved by using imagery floating about the text (see below). Each image indicates the phoneme represented by each grapheme underneath.

Most of the children that struggle with reading tend to be visual learners and Easyread plays right into their strengths. It also weans them from their habits of sight-memorisation and guessing.

Part of the GPR process is also to encourage the child away from the common habits of sight-memorisation of words and guessing. This is done through the use of specially designed games.

Daily Process

If you have a group struggling with their reading in Year 3 or Year 4, then we suggest that they come into the ICT suite before the start of the school day, for a 15-minute reading session on Easyread (potentially with their parent). A single member of staff can monitor the whole group. In that way, one technical facilitator can oversee the reading practice of a large group of children.

Most children can do the lessons unassisted. It will be clear from the early days of the course if a child needs one-on-one support through the lessons.

If the parent has home Internet access, they can access the Easyread lessons from home as well. In that way you can integrate school and home activity and allow a child to maintain continuity through holidays and weekends.

TrainerText

Key to our approach is TrainerText, which takes the fear of reading away. Our unique TrainerText system allows the child to decode the text unaided, because we incorporate phonic guidance directly over the text.

Here is an example of some TrainerText:

You will know what a tricky little word was is.

Do you see how the TrainerText can navigate through these highly inconsistent words.

The image above the s in has and was is the Zuto from Pluto (the Zutos live on Pluto). That guides the child towards the correct phoneme to use when blending them. And the a in was has the Octopus who Knocked a Puss above it.

The other characters are the goat in a boat, the ant in pink pants, the snake with a shake, the horse on the course and the whale with purple pigtails.

We also include prize codewords through the online materials (to win stickers and certificates that we supply).

How To Give It a Go

The first thing to do is show the first child you have in mind our sample lesson.

If that goes well, we are very confident of a good result.

The children access the lessons online. You log onto your account each day through our home page (using the link in the top left corner) and then each child can log in independently.

Your Unconditional No-Waste Guarantee

Here is your double guarantee that you won't be wasting your money:

  1. If you are unhappy in any way with Easyread having set up the account, just contact us and we will cancel the invoice.
  2. Then, if the child does the course and you are anything less than delighted with the progress you achieve, contact us and we will refund you the full cost of that child's Easyread.

This is totally unconditional. However, please note that Easyread works best if the child is doing at least 4 or 5 lessons per week. So everyone will be happiest if that daily routine can be established.

Adding More Children

Once your account is created, you can contact us through the private messaging system within your account. Just ask us to add children to your account through the messaging system. We will get that done and post you an invoice.

Easyread is a reading system designed for visual learners. It uses a short daily lesson online to teach a child to read over 2-6 months. It has proved highly effective with the most common form of dyslexia (auditory deficit syndrome). It is based on synthetic phonics.

We can also give advice on other foms of dyslexia such as Irlen Syndrome and Dyspraxia.

Getting children to read is our passion. Don't hesitate to call us with any question. But before you do, take the time to have a look around the site. There is a lot of information on literacy, dyslexia, the causes of dyslexia and ways to help with each type of dyslexia.

You can also check our blog to hear the latest literacy news.
