All seems to be going well here.
Joel feels it is very easy but he needed to go right back to basics with sounding out words. We are happy to carry on at this level just to make sure he builds on this stage. He is not guessing the words in the sessions but I do need to check he is not guessing when reading other text.
He efficiently scanned a piece of text for homework which is progress. He seemed to be able to pick out the key words speedily.
Joel says his reading is much quicker and if he comes across a tricky word he now sounds it out.
He doesn’t choose to read a book yet but that could be him rather than his reading ability.
We like the fact that the sessions are quick and he can complete the tasks speedily and accurately. Joel does not feel like it is much effort and that is great too as he has found reading a real struggle in the past.
I will try and monitor his reading of other texts and let you know if there are any changes.
